Punjab University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Mujahid Kamran has said that knowledge and warfare are real spirit of Islam but we could not become knowledgeable and powerful without the strength of character. He was addressing the book launching ceremony of "Akhri Salam: East Pakistan Key Maidan-e-Jang Say" written by Major Aftab Ahmed (Retd) at Al Raazi Hall of Undergraduate Study Centre.

Addressing the ceremony, Dr Kamran said that the question is why are the people of Balochistan deprived of their rights? He said that now the PU has started efforts to resolve and highlight the problems of Balochistan and according to an announcement made by the administration in a seminar organised by PU Academic Staff Association, 97 Baloch students have been admitted to PU with free education and free boarding facilities and with a scholarship of Rs 3,000 a month to each Baloch student to bear the expenses of hostel mess. He said that an Australian Jewish scientist Gideon Polya has written in his book "Body Count" that there has been 1.3 billion avoidable deaths during the period 1950-2005 of which 600 million were Muslims. He said that the figure would reach 700 million if we included deaths of Muslims occurred in the last seven years. He congratulated Major Aftab (Retd) for writing the book which has brought out our strengths and weaknesses.

The pre-conference workshop of International Conference of Applied Psychology 2012 was held at Punjab University Centre for Clinical Psychology here on Saturday. It was attended by a large number of students and faculty members; in the first session Dr Farrah Malik was the resource person for the workshop entitled "Dealing with Abused Children: Assessment and Rehabilitation" and Maqbool A Babri was the resource person for the workshop entitled "Healing through Hypnosis". In the second session, Dr Urusa Fatma and Dr Irum Bukhari were the resource persons of the workshop entitled "Developing Cultural Sensitivity and Self-Awareness for Effective Therapeutic Communication".
